Marilyn Dashe - June Newsletter

My Newsletter is Back!

It's been a long year, and I apologize for the temporary demise of my newsletter. Much of my year was affected by the fact that I broke both bones in my left arm in early November. After having my eyes dilated by the ophthalmologist, I fell up a step that I didn't see in the parking lot, and the result was surgery with two rods and 11 screws in my arm, followed by almost six months in a cast and splint. And of course, I'm left handed so that didn't help. It's much better now, but so much of this year was unfortunately affected by it!

In spite of my broken arm, we managed to fit in a few trips this year, starting with a really fun trip to La Paz in Baja over the holidays (with the cast). We hiked, snorkeled, and loved visiting the little towns. The next big trip was our "annual" trip to Tokyo to visit my son Adam and his family who are in their third year living there. It was an adventure, as usual. When we came back, our son Alex and his family, who had lived in Minneapolis their whole lives, moved to Phoenix where Alex got an exciting job opportunity -- that's called moving from one weather extreme to the other. We went there to help them find a house to rent, and then went back to swim in their pool after they got settled. We are excited to now have them only a six-hour drive away. My son Steven and his family are the only ones still living in Minneapolis. They came out for spring break, and we spent a few days in the desert in Borrego Springs. Now it's summer, and everyone is coming here to enjoy our weather and beaches!

RE/MAX At The Coast has enjoyed wonderful growth since my last newsletter. We now have 27 agents working for us, and our own escrow, Sand Dollar Escrow which we started last fall, has grown and prospered, thanks to Jan Murray, our excellent escrow officer. A couple of weeks ago, I attended a two-day conference in Denver, the RE/MAX headquarters, where I had a chance to meet with Broker/Owners from all over the country. It was an enlightening conference where we heard RE/MAX's plans to move forward in the "new age" of real estate. I also closed six escrows this year, four of them for one family who decided that everyone had to move around this year. I appreciate their trust so much!

If you have been following the real estate news, you will have read a lot about the real estate "disrupters." These are the new real estate models (Compass, eXp, Purplebricks, Redfin, etc.) who have entered the market in the past six months and are shaking up traditional real estate brokerages. Each focuses on something new: better technology, money from venture capitalists, ability to buy shares of the company, reduced prices to list your house, and they have been actively recruiting agents from traditional brokerages, like ours. Our response may be to "don a cape, throw up a shield, and wield a sword," or it may be just to realize that we still have the best agents, give them the most support, know our markets and are known in them,  and have loyal customers, and good reputations. We know that we will survive and thrive if we move forward doing what we do best. Keep your eyes open for news about these disrupters.

I am making a commitment to get back on track with my newsletter. My clients and friends have asked me what happened to it, and I am definitely the pot calling the kettle black as I preach consistency to our agents. Going forward, I will send it out again monthly.

Have a fabulous 4th and enjoy summer! It's such fun to be outside! Please stop in and see us at RE/MAX At The Coast, and of course, if you know anyone who might be interested in buying or selling, I always appreciate your referrals.
